When I lived in a third floor condo on the South Side of Chicago in the 1980s and 90s, I had as “neighbors” a colony of monk parakeets that had their own condominium on the electric pole across from my porch in the alley. I wish I had been a birder and photographer back then.

We have a colony of monk parakeets in Hyde Park in Chicago too! Love this piece and I adore birds.
So well written, so sad. I find it difficult to understand how one sees beauty in nature but perceives only a nuisance.
