The description of the killing of Grackles is interesting today in light of the as yet unexplained sharp decline of Common Grackle populations in recent years.

Fascinating and surprising! Got a good laugh from your caption for the printed excerpt about sucking hummingbirds. When I was atlasing in Somerset, an old farmer stopped in his truck to chat with me. He bemoaned the decline of the Bobwhite Quail and thought it had something to do with bird flu. But he also mentioned the massive numbers he would take when hunting was good. In the hundreds, thirteen coveys in one weekend, etcetera. Hmmm....
